Herne Mill is a Kentish smock windmill dating from 1789. Opening times: Last admission is 4.30pm. The mill is also open by appointment. Closed Season Workparties: From October to Easter, the Friends organise occasional workparties at the mill which are advertised in the Diary Section. These are social opportunities as well as a chance to get involved in the mill maintenance (anything from cleaning to replacing curb teeth), learn how to operate the mill and how to act as a mill guide. Membership of the Friends of Herne Mill: Yearly - £2.50 / adults, £1.00 / children. Membership gives free entry to the mill on open days, copies of the Friends' occasional newsletter 'Gleanings' and the opportunity to act as a volunteer at the mill. The latest in a long line of mills which have occupied the site for centuries, Herne Mill is a local landmark on the skyline above the ancient village of Herne in Kent.
It can be seen from the A299 Thanet Way which passes nearby; from the Thames Estuary where it is a ‘sea mark’ and from the countryside around.
It is Grade I listed and is owned by Kent County Council
and cared for by the Friends of Herne Mill.
The mill is open to the public from Easter to the end of September on Sundays and Bank Holidays from 2:00pm to 5:00pm and on Thursdays in August from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
On National Mills Weekend (second weekend in May) and Heritage Weekend (second weekend in September) it is also open on Saturdays from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

Access:
Road access is signposted from the A291 Herne Bay - Canterbury road and the A299.
If traveling from Thanet, take the turn off signed Canterbury/ Broomfield, proceed parallel to the A299 and turn left into Mill Lane at the windmill fingerpost.
Parking: Limited parking is available at the mill.
Pedestrian access from Herne Bay - use the Pigeon Lane footbridge over the A299, turn right into Mill Lane.
